Week 6 of Project Publish had us writing a piece to show off the storytelling ability of our actor. Here’s my story: Sullivan’s Story A dozen pair of eyes followed me as I approached the bench and took my seat. “This isn’t a jury of my peers,” I thought, but it’s too late to … [Read more…]
Think Dancing with the Stars…with no dancing (and better writing and acting) In Spring of 2013, I participated as a Writer Contestant in Project Publish – the first (and, so far, the only) season of a reality show for writers and actors produced by Kimberly Kozar Lescelius on BATV – the public access station of Batavia, … [Read more…]
Meet the Contestants There was no competition or elimination on Week 1 – just all of us TV newbies getting the hang of everything and being introduced to the audience.
Let the Games Begin! Episode 2 brought the first challenge. We writers were to write a scene with 2 or 3 characters that was completely dialogue-driven. This was quite a baptism by fire for the actors, having to play at least two different characters right off the bat!

That would be yours truly. Prior to this assignment I’d never written, or even read, for that matter, any Science … [Read more…]
“Laurie, Your Story Ends Here” Other than Project Publish, the only reality show my husband I have ever watched is Dancing with the Stars. Invariably, in the last few weeks of competition, one of us states the obvious… at this point in the competition, everyone is so evenly matched that anybody could win, and anybody … [Read more…]
The Big Finish Up until now, all episodes of Project Publish were broadcast live with just the cast and crew present in the studio, and the fate of the contestants was solely in the hands of the writing and acting judges. But today was different! For our big finale, all contestants from the season were … [Read more…]
Week three of Project Publish was Poetry Week. Our challenge was to write two poems on the same topic, but contrasting — one rhymed, one free verse; one light, one dark. My only prior poetry experience, other than the requisite angst-ridden poems of my teenage years, was primarily funny and/or insulting poems or song parodies … [Read more…]
